The Brera Palace (Palazzo di Brera) history starts with the passage of the palace area and of the former monastry, from the religious order of Umiliati to the Gesuits in 1571. Twenty years after comes the project for the upgrade of the palace, but it was only at the end of 17th century, that the works started. The palace was finally completed in 1776 thanks to the architect Piermarini. Brera is one of the most important cultural instituions of Milan, thanks to the outstanding gallery of paintings, and to the Library, the garden, the School for the fine arts, the old observatory.
