The Ambrose church (Sant’Ambrogio) history starts with the election of Ambrose as bishop of Milan in 374 A.D. Five years after, Ambrose fosters the construction of a basilica to honor the first martyrs of Milan.
The visit of the church represents one of the best way to enjoy some of the treasures of medieval art in Milan, such as the apse mosaic, the 12th century roman style façade, or the golden 9th century altar. The church is freely accessible.
